Study Investigating The Effect Of Urea With Nutrisphere-N On Corn In Autumn And Spring

A research study explores the effect of urea coated with Nutrisphere-N polymer on nitrogen (N) uptake and grain yields of corn. The study investigates two urea application timings, one in autumn and one in spring, and with three different nitrogen (N) rates (90, 180, and 270 kg N ha−1) with and without Nutrisphere-N polymer.

The findings indicate that compared to uncoated nitrogen (N), urea coated with Nutrisphere-N improves grain yields by 18.3% with applications of 180 kg N ha−1 in autumn. Corn ear-leaf content was highest with urea coated with Nutrisphere-N at 180 and 240 kg N ha−1 in both autumn and spring applications.

Grain nitrogen content is highest when urea is coated with Nutrisphere-N and applied at 270 kg N ha−1 in both autumn and spring. Nutrisphere-N application at 180 kg N ha−1 in autumn improves grain nitrogen removal by 29.6% compared to untreated urea.

The study suggests that adding Nutrisphere-N to urea fertiliser can potentially improve nitrogen content in leaves and grain, as well as increase grain yields, particularly with autumn nitrogen applications that have a higher potential for soil nitrogen loss.

Overall, the research highlights the potential benefits of using urea coated with Nutrisphere-N polymer as a nitrogen management option for corn, especially in areas with high soil nitrogen loss.
