Nutrisphere-N Achieves 86% reduction in ammonia release
All soils are susceptible to nitrogen loss, Nutrisphere-N is an advantageous solution in reducing the loss and helping crops avoid nutrient deficiency.
Nutrisphere-N provides advanced protection for applied Nitrogen (N).
A laboratory study was conducted in a light and temperature-controlled chamber at University College Dublin, Ireland by Dr Mary Harty, a key researcher in emissions and efficiency of nitrogen.
Below is a graph from the full report demonstrating an impressive 86% reduction in release of ammonia over a 20-day period (17 June to 6th July 2020) from the NutriSphere-N treated urea granule compared to the untreated urea fertiliser granule.

Less nitrogen release as ammonia into the atmosphere means less pollution and improved nitrogen use efficiency for the growing crop.

NutriSphere-N shields nitrogen
Up to 50% of Nitrogen can be lost through leaching, volatilization and denitrification, Nutrisphere-N provides protection against these losses to aid the health and development of the plant.
Leaching
- Sandy soils are most susceptible to nitrogen loss from leaching, such soils have large pore spaces. This means there is more space for rain to wash through and take the nitrogen with it into the water course and drinking water.
Volatilization
- Volatilization occurs with surfaced placed nitrogen and is accelerated by weather conditions such as high winds or high temperatures.
Denitrification
- Poorly drained or over-water soils at a high temperature can lead to denitrification and release of the dangerous climatic gas nitrous oxide (N2O).
Increased loss of nitrogen
NutriSphere-N shields nitrogen on a molecular level by inhibiting enzymes and keeping more nitrogen in the plant available ammonium form for a longer period of time.

What is Nutrisphere-N
NutriSphere-N® Nitrogen Fertiliser Manager holds more nitrogen from Urea based fertilizers available for plant uptake and inhibits the three losses of Nitrogen. This contributes to higher yield potential and healthier crops.
NutriSphere-N protects the micro-environment around the fertiliser granule by denying bacteria the three essential elements - nickel, copper and iron

Nickel is the fuel source for urease.
Which needs nickel to convert urea to ammonia leading to volatilisation

Iron fuels nitrobacter
Which needs iron to convert nitrite into nitrate, leading to leaching

Copper fuels nitrosomonas
Which needs copper to convert nitrite and nitrate into nitrous oxide, leading denitrification
Is there any environmental impact with the use of NutriSphere-N
The use of Nutrisphere-N reduces environmental impact. More Nitrogen becomes available for plant uptake when using Nutrisphere-N, leaving less N in the soil and at risk of being released into the environment. It is biodegradable and water-soluble and is proven to have no effect on life in the soil or water.
The Nutrient Use Efficiency People
At Verdesian Life Sciences one goal: to enable a sustainable future for farmers through nutrient use efficiency (NUE).
We develop products and technologies that assist farmers to grow more with less.
Our NUE solutions help crops reach towards their full genetic potential, sustainably.

The agricultural industry faces a crucial challenge—how to maximise yields while minimising environmental impact. Nitrogen fertilisers play a key role in crop productivity, but inefficient nitrogen use can lead to volatilisation, leaching, and denitrification, resulting in lost nutrients, soil degradation, and environmental pollution.
