What % of phosphorus is available for my growing season?

Boost nutrient uptake in your crops

Positively charged elements in the soil like calcium, magnesium, aluminium and iron can cause phosphorus to become fixed in the soil.

In the ‘Avail Masters’ video above Dave Schwartz, from the Verdesian Research Farm in Guthrie Centre Iowa, answers one of the most unknown questions in Phosphorus fertiliser fertility.

“What percentage of the phosphorus that I put down is going to be available for my next growing season?”

As Schwartz explains in the video, the answer depends on a few factors.

  • What's your soil ph?
  • What's your organic matter?
  • What other types of elements are present in your soil, such as aluminium, calcium, iron & magnesium?

Even some of the best soils are only capable of converting 25% of the applied phosphorus.

A more readily available and soluble phosphorus in the soil will allow for better plant root interception and efficient plant nutrient uptake, leading to less phosphorus buildup in the soil and less lost to rivers, lakes and sea.

Get more from your phosphorus investment

AVAIL has a very high cation exchange capacity and this reacts with aluminium, calcium, iron & magnesium shielding phosphorus fertiliser from fixation. More available P can lead to more robust root systems, boosting early-season performance, plant stress tolerance, crop quality and yield potential.

For example, if you applied 78kg of untreated P205 per hectare it would normally return 19kg of the original 78kg you apply.

Subsequently, if you applied 70 lbs of untreated P205 per acre it would normally return 17lbs of the original 70lbs you apply.

However, if you treat your P205 with Avail it can improve that return by up to 46kg of available P per hectare.

Yield average per hectare with Avail across six years and six countries in Europe is as follows:

● Maize 5.8 %

● Cereals 2.8%

● Potato 3.8%

● sugar beet 5.6%

● oilseed rape 2.6%

Optimise phosphorus performance for a stronger, earlier start

AVAIL is designed to reduce the fixation of phosphate fertilisers in any soil type and PH, the treated fertiliser can be applied to any crop where phosphate fertiliser is deemed useful for plant growth and development.

AVAIL offers better performance, handling, storage and ease-of-use. In addition, AVAIL technology makes more of the applied phosphorus available to your plants, regardless of source or timing, increasing phosphorus efficiency uptake in the plant.

Avail Key Benefits
  • Increased phosphorus efficiency for increased uptake in the plant

  • Delivers 3-to-1 return on your investment

  • Better early season crop performance
